  talkSPORT understands that Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is now in advanced talks to take the Coventry City job.

  The Sky Blues sacked long-term manager Mark Robins earlier this month after a poor start to the season.

  Coventry are 17th in the table and are facing a relegation battle when they were just one kick away from the Premier League in 2023.

  On that occasion, a penalty shootout loss to Luton ended Premier League dreams, while they suffered the same fate on spot kicks against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final last year.

  But football waits for no one, and Robins was dismissed, with Lampard now close to taking the job.

  This will be his second managerial role in the Championship after being charge of Derby County for the 2018/19 season.

  Heating up

  Aston Villa have reportedly joined Manchester City in postponing the upcoming Premier League vote on Associated Party Transactions [APTs].

  The Daily Telegraph are reporting that the Villans have submitted a written plea to the top-flight.

  This is because they feel the vote on any potential changes, which could have huge ramifications for the Premier League, shouldn't be rushed.

  The potential for further legal challenges and rule changes have all been cited by Villa.

  The proposed changes to the APT rules follow on from a three-person legal panel deciding that the way the Premier League deal with APTs is unlawful.

  This was a case that involved Man City, and the Citizens are allowed to apply for compensation.

  But the top-flight want to get the clubs to vote on new rules now, while City and now Villa want more caution.

  talkSPORT understands that former Arsenal Patrick Vieira midfielder has verbally agreed to become Genoa's new manager.

  The Frenchman played for Manchester City and the Gunners in the Premier League, winning three top-flight titles.

  As a manager, he was most recently in charge of Strasbourg, while he also had a spell at Crystal Palace.

  Vieira was in place at Selhurst Park from July 2021 to March 2023.

  He took charge of 74 games and helped develop the likes of Michael Olise and Eberechie Eze.

  And now, he's set for a spell in Italy to try and save Genoa, who are just above the relegation zone in Serie A on ten points.

  No go Caoimhin

  talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs understands that Chelsea aren't interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher.

  This follows reports suggesting that the Blues were looking at a summer move for the Republic of Ireland international.

  Kelleher is Liverpool's number two goalkeeper and has filled in admirable for Alisson Becker over the last two seasons, with the Brazilian suffering from several injuries.

  But he wants to be a number one and is more than good enough to be so.

  However, that won't be at Chelsea, with the Blues happy to stick by Robert Sanchez.

  Before scoring his first England goal, Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon met Toon fan Ivy, who has Hyper-IGE syndrome.

  When he met her, she showed him her favourite celebration, a cartwheel, and Gordon promised if he scored he would do the same.

  On Sunday, the winger volleyed in from Tino Livramento's deflected cross and stayed true to his word.

  It was a lovely touch from Gordon who could have easily been caught up in the euphoria of scoring his first senior Three Lions goal.
  But he remembered Ivy.

  Speaking after the game to the England media team about it, he said: "It was for a little girl.

  "A girl called Ivy that I've had the pleasure to spend time with.

  "She's got Hyper-IGE syndrome. She's such a pleasure to be around.

  "I promised I would do that celebration for her, and I am a man of my word."

  Aston Villa have confirmed that Morgan Rogers has penned a new contract until 2030.

  The attacking midfielder only joined the Villans in January this year from Middlesbrough for an initial £11 million.

  He has since become a key part of Unai Emery's side, helping them reach the Champions League last year.

  This season, his game has gone to another level, and he earned his first senior England call-up after a stellar start to the campaign.

  He made his Three Lions debut in the 3-0 win over Greece last week and has now signed a new deal.

  This contract is to bring Rogers in line with some of the high earners at Villa Park to reflect his importance to the first team.

  Scotland saved by Liverpool star as full-time whistle sounds

  That's a wrap on tonight's Nations League action and Scotland have avoided relegation to League B, at least for now.

  Knowing a loss would guarantee relegation, Steve Clarke's side started brightly as John McGinn scored in the third minute.

  However, Poland equalised in sensational fashion through Kamil Piątkowskiin the second half to put Scotland on the brink of the drop.

  Enter Andy Robertson.

  The Liverpool defender popped up in the 93rd minute to save Scotland.

  However, because Croatia drew 1-1 Portugal and had a better goal difference, Scotland finished their group in third and will now go into a play-off against one of the second-placed teams in League B.

  There were dramatic late scenes for Spain as they overcame Switzerland 3-2 thanks to Bryan Zaragoza's penalty in the 95th minute.

  But the story of the night goes to San Marino, who erased a 1-0 deficit to come back and beat Liechtenstein 3-1.

  It means the microstate was promoted to League C as the 3-1 margin was also their biggest win ever.

  Scotland on the brink...

  From ecstasy to agony.

  Poland defender Kamil Piątkowski has put Scotland on the brink of relegation to League B with a thunderous strike from outside the box.

  Piątkowski's second-half equaliser means Scotland need to find a second goal before the full-time whistle if they are to remain in League A.

  If Scotland do not win, they will be relegated.

  As for Poland, they just have to avoid defeat against Scotland to go into the relegation play-off against one of the teams in League B.

  In the other games, San Marino are inching closer to their second win in six games as Nicola Nanni put them 2-1 ahead over Liechtenstein from the penalty spot.

  Whisper it quietly, but San Marino are on the comeback trail.

  The minnows equalised less than 50 seconds into the second half thanks to Lorenzo Lazzari.

  Lazzari made a darting run between Liechtenstein's centre-backs and was picked out with a delightful through ball.

  With plenty of time remaining and momentum behind them, could San Marino secure their second win in their last six games?

  In other news, Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley doubled Northern Ireland's advantage over Luxembourg.

  Bradley was on hand at the back post to nod home Isaac Price's cross.

  And that's half-time!

  The first 45 minutes of Nations League action tonight is done and dusted, with a goal arriving in all but one game.

  John McGinn scored the first of the night when he put Scotland 1-0 in front against Poland and became the fifth member of a special club.

  Joao Felix handed Portugal the lead in the 33rd minute thanks to a floated ball over the top from Vitinha into the path of the Chelsea forward.

  Felix cushioned the pass with his first touch and took another to get it out from his feet before coolly slotting past Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

  Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino gifted Spain the lead over Switzerland via rather fortuitous circumstances.

  Pedri had a penalty saved by Swiss gloveman Yvon Mvogo before Nico Williams had a volley blocked on the line.

  But the rebound from that kindly fell to the feet of Pino, who smashed a first-time effort into the net.

  As for minnows San Marino, their hopes of being promoted from League D have been dealt a major blow as they trail Liechtenstein 1-0.

  McGinn joins elite club with early goal

  It's two goals in as many games for John McGinn as he put Scotland 1-0 up against Poland in just the third minute.

  Scottish winger Ben Doak made an intelligent run and was picked out with a perfect pass inside the box.

  Doak then looked up and saw McGinn unmarked at the top of the 18-yard box and laid it in his path.

  The Aston Villa skipper expertly steered home Doak's cutback with his right foot as Poland goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski's could not get a finger to it despite his diving effort.

  McGinn wheeled away with his traditional goggles celebration and was joined by his teammates.

  The 30-year-old's early strike also made him just the fifth player in history to have scored 20 goals or more for Scotland.

  Denis Law, Kenny Dalglish, Hughie Gallacher and Lawrie Reilly are the other four to have cracked the 20-goal mark.

  Law and Dalglish share the all-time record, which stands at 30 goals for Scotland.

  Elsewhere across the grounds, Bulgaria leads Belarus 1-0, Kosovo is 1-0 up over Lithuania and Romania hold a 1-0 advantage over Cyprus.

  All other games remain 0-0.

  Now you see me, now you Ronal-don't

  Fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal's Nations League clash against Croatia are going to be disappointed.

  The 39-year-old was released from Portugal's squad along with Bruno Fernandes, Pedro Neto and Bernardo Silva.

  Portugal boss Roberto Martinez claimed the reason for releasing the star quartet was to give some different players a chance to shine.

  "We need to be competitive to add to the group, it's getting harder and harder to get into the starting eleven," Martinez said in his pre-match press conference.

  "There's a World Cup finals in 18 months.

  "The game against Croatia is important, we need to look at other players."

  Ronaldo has nearly racked up 1700 minutes for Portugal and Al-Nassr this season, but his absence for his nation's final group game means he misses out on a chance for glory.

  Had Ronaldo played against Croatia, he would have been in with a shout of being the top Nations League scorer from the group phase of the competition.

  Ronaldo is joint second in the standings with five goals, just two behind Norway's Erling Haaland.

  Nations League time!

  We're almost at the end of the international break, but for a number of Premier League stars, they still have one more game to get through.

  Plenty of eyes will be on Scotland v Poland, with the likes of John McGinn and Andy Robertson in action for the Tartan Army.

  However, most will be intrigued to see if young forward Ben Doak can recreate his dazzling display against Croatia when he showed up Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol.

  A Nations League clash with significantly less star power but holds interest for the more niche fans among us is San Marino against Liechtenstein.

  San Marino won their first fixture 1-0 and will be promoted from League D if they can beat Liechtenstein once again.

  Anyway, here's a full list of all the Nations League action on this evening and you can take your pick of what to follow!

  Lille's big David dilemma

  It feels like every transfer window, Lille striker Jonathan David is linked with a Premier League move.

  The Canadian has once again been in fine form this season, scoring 13 goals in 19 games for Lille across all competitions.

  However, David may not call Lille home for much longer given his contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he could walk for free.

  With David's future in the balance, Lille may look to cash in on him in the January window.

  So, where does the 24-year-old's future lie?

  According to reports, three Premier League clubs are said to be tracking David: Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

  But there's one club that David has his heart set on.

  Simon Jordan has highlighted why Enzo Fernandez escaped the kind of FA ban that has left Tottenham reeling over Rodrigo Bentancur.

  Spurs’ Uruguayan midfielder Bentancur has been given a seven-match ban and £100,000 fine by the Football Association.

  The case related to a racial slur he made about club teammate Heung-min Son and South Koreans during an interview on Uruguayan TV.

  The incident which occurred in June this year has been compared to Chelsea’s Fernandez who filmed himself singing a racist chant about France and Kylian Mbappe three months later.

  No investigation or punishment was forthcoming from the FA, which former Crystal Palace owner Jordan explained on talkSPORT.

  “Fernandez said something equally as challenging at Chelsea but he gets away with it because of jurisdiction rules,” he said.

  “So you’ve got an inconsistency about the manner in which you approach these things because the FA couldn’t sanction Fernandez.

  “He’s playing in the FA’s Premier League, but because he was playing out of their jurisdiction as released by Chelsea he was under the jurisdiction of another governance.”

  Kobbie Mainoo has handed new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim a huge boost by taking part in his first training session.

  The England star has not played for the Red Devils since starting the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa before October's international break.

  However, he is now closing in on a return to action and was able to return to training at Carrington during Amorim's first session.

  That's all folks!

  Former Norwich centre-back Timm Klose has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.

  The 17-cap Switzerland international, who spent five years at Carrow Road from 2016-2021, has spent the last year playing for Basel's Under-21s.

  Klose, who has also been coaching the youth side, will remain with the Swiss giants where he will work as a defensive coach.

  Announcing the news on Instagram, he said: "After many years, a great journey is coming to an end.

  "It hasn’t always been all rainbows and sunshine, but even the hard and rocky times have shaped me into who I am today."

  Before adding: "Last but not least, thanks to all the clubs who had the courage to sign me, Basel, Thun, Nurnberg, Wolfsburg, Norwich and Bristol City.

  "I have always given everything for them and tried to leave my heart on and off the pitch.

  "Playing for Switzerland, representing my country, has filled me and my family with great pride, it was wonderful, thank you!"

  S-Mart move

  Arsenal purposely looked to hide the extent of Martin Odegaard's injury following the ankle knock he picked up.

  The Gunners skipper is back to full fitness - making his comeback prior to the November international break.

  His start in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea was his first Premier League appearance since August 31 after suffering ankle ligament damage on international duty for Norway at the start of September.

  And shortly after his injury, Arsenal's stars posed for their annual team photo, which came just days after their north London derby victory over Tottenham.

  Eagle-eyed fans noticed at the time that a ball had been placed in front of Odegaard's injured left ankle, with Bukayo Saka also having a ball nestled by his boots.

  And according to The Athletic, this was deliberate, as boss Mikel Arteta wanted to hide any swelling to keep the severity of Odegaard's injury under wraps.

  Odegaard had been spotted wearing a protective boot and was using crutches immediately after limping off against Austria.

  In the player's absence, Arsenal won just three out of seven Premier League matches, with the club losing ground on leaders Liverpool.

  Fixture drama

  Arsenal Women have been forced to move their Champions League group stage meeting with Bayern Munich due to a fixture clash.

  The WSL giants were scheduled to face their German opponents at the Emirates on Wednesday, December 18.

  But Mikel Arteta's men were subsequently drawn at home to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at the same time and venue on the same night.

  As a result, the European tie between Arsenal and Bayern has been moved to Borehamwood's Meadow Park, which will still take place on December 18.

  It had originally been thought that the match wouldn't be able to take place there due to the ground not meeting UEFA stadium regulations.

  But Arsenal have since revealed that UEFA have granted special dispensation for the game to be played there given the unique circumstance.

  Arsenal also stressed that fans that bought tickets for the original Emirates meeting will receive a full refund and will be given priority access to purchase a new ticket for the fixture.

  The north Londoners also stated: "As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer a complimentary ticket for a future WSL match at Emirates Stadium this season, or a £20 retail voucher that can be redeemed at The Armoury or on Arsenal Direct."

  Spur of the moment

  Tottenham Hotspur have 'remastered their brand identity' by making changes to their club logo and signature font.

  Over 300 players people, including players, helped redevelop the club's most recognisable features to be more 'playful and daring'.

  In astatement, the club said: "Welcome to our remastered brand identity, embracing our rich history and unmistakable heritage.

  "Created with the input of over 300 players, staff and faalsons to fully understand whatTottenham Hotspurmeans to them, our new identity enables a more playful, daring approach for the Club’s brand across the multitude of platforms on which it now features, with a particular focus on clarity in digital environments.

  "The world-famous cockerel stands prouder than ever and is supported by a silhouette version, along with the reintroduction of the THFC monogram and new colours, patterns and hallmarks linked to the Club’s heritage."

  And the club also detailed the adjustments made to the iconic cockerel badge.

  The Premier League outfit's current logo has a cockerel on top of a football, with the details of both symbols included, as well as 'Tottenham Hotspur Football Club' underneath.

  Now, they've taken away the writing and also added a version where the objects are blacked out.

  Need for speed

  Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven has been named as the Premier League's quickest player so far this season.

  The Dutch defender's fastest time was clocked at 37.12 km/h, according to Squawka.

  That astonishing time was set in Spurs' 3-0 win at Manchester United, which saw Van de Ven track back on the brink of half-time to tackle Alejandro Garnahco.

  In second spot with a top speed of 36.72 km/h is Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes.

  Though there is no room in the top five for his teammate Erling Haaland, whose speed of 35.74 km/h places him sixth in the top ten.

  Meanwhile Bournemouth's Mark Travers is the fasted top-flight goalkeeper as of yet, hitting a top speed of 31.14 km/h.

  Kane you believe it?

  At last, Harry Kane's statue has been unveiled - and fans think it's worse than they originally feared.

  The England captain had been made up in bronze in 2020 following a £7,200 commission by Waltham Forest Council, but it had been hidden away for four years.

  It had originally been made to be placed outside of Chingford Overground Station, but plans were abandoned after a risk assessment conducted by Transport For London.

  Pictures of the Bayern Munich striker's statue have been leaked in the mean time, with many fans fearing it looks absolutely nothing like him.

  But now, fans have been able to see the figure in all its glory outside his andDavid Beckham's former club Ridgeway Rovers' new home, the Peter May Centre in east London.

  Kane, who has been back in England for international duty this week, visited the site he helped open in 2016, and was filmed standing alongside the bronze work as two youngsters lifted the cover of it.

  The England captain applauded as the statue was unveiled, with the kids standing either side.

  Speaking of his delight at the unveiling, Kane posted on X: "A real proud moment for me to go back to where my life in football began and unveil a statue. I hope it helps inspire the next generation to work hard and believe in themselves."

  Lost cause

  Michail Antonio will miss Jamaica's clash with the USA on Monday night for a bizarre reason.

  The West Ham striker has been ruled out of the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final second leg in St. Louis, having missed the first due to suspension.

  Charlton's Kaheim Dixon is also unavailable to managerSteve McClarenafter both players lost their passports.

  McClaren explained: "Antonio and Dixon lost passports, it was too late to get new ones and to get visas to come over here, so they are missing."

  As a result he will be without the pair as the Reggae Boyz look to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit.

  Jamaica will also be without Brentford's Ethan Pinnock through injury, whilstMason Holgateis suspended after he was sent off in the first leg.

  Antonio has won 21 caps for Jamaica since switching allegiance from England and making his debut in 2021, scoring on five occasions.

  Still West Ham's Jul

  England icon Stuart Pearce has called on West Ham and the club's fans to keep the faith in boss Julen Lopetegui following their poor start to the season.

  Tipped for a top seven push at the start of the campaign, Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes in the summer, has overseen just three Premier League wins from 11 matches.

  With the Hammers losing on five occasions and sitting in 14th spot - five points above the bottom three - many fans are already demanding the Spaniard be sacked.

  But Pearce, who played for the east London outfit between 1999-2001, insists Lopetegui has to be given more time to turn things around.

  Discussing West ham's situation, Pearce said: "You've got to understand that they made a big call in the summer to not renegotiate with David Moyes.

  "They made that judgement call, they identified Lopetegui to come in and replace him.

  "And after 11 games, it's too soon [calls from fans to be sacked], there has been massive changes at West Ham, not just the coaching staff, but behind the scenes, all manner of things have changed.

  "They've had a lot of new players come in, I thought they did really good business in the summer, but some of those players have not delivered what you would hope they would have done.

  "But I think you've got to be a bit more patient at West Ham, I really do and I've said that to fans that I've bumped into that are a bit fidgety at this moment in time.

  "They don't think he's the right man, but I think you've got to sit tight at least until the end of the season."

  Former Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez has poured cold water on talk linking him with a January return to Old Trafford.

  The 21-year-old, who came through the Red Devils' academy, was sold to Benfica in May 2024 without playing a senior appearance for the club.

  Fernandez has impressed for the Portuguese giants this season - chipping in with two goals and as many assists in 16 matches in all competitions.

  With United boasting a buy-back option, there has been speculation that the club could look to bring him back to England in the New Year to solve new boss Ruben Amorim's full-back issue.

  But Fernandez is keen to continue his development away from United, as he told Marca: "To be honest, I don't pay much attention to it [United rumours].

  "I'm focused on what I have to do because I have a game every three days.

  "It's always nice to have teams call you and everyone wants to grow, but I'm doing very well here.

  "United have a signed purchase option, but I'm very happy here."
